Absolute encoder

Post by juliomarin »

Hello to all
I am new at this forum. I am evaluating the possibility to use a RevPi to upgrade an old electronic that read a 12Vdc 8bits absolute encoder (grey coded) and I have some questions:
The "Encoder" option for RevPi is only for incremental encoders :?:
Can RevPi hardware inputs read 12Vdc signals :?:
Thanks in advance!! ;)

Hi juliomarin, welcome to the Revolution Pi forum! We are glad that you are part of our community.
Regarding your question about the encoder: Currently, the Revolution Pi's "Encoder" option primarily supports incremental encoders. If you are using an absolute encoder with gray encoding, it may be necessary to convert the data accordingly. However, this depends on your specific use case.
Regarding the hardware inputs of the Revolution Pi: Yes, the hardware inputs can handle 12Vdc signals. The Revolution Pi is versatile and should work well for your upgrade project. However, take a look at video tutorial #14, which explains how encoders can be operated in a very pragmatic way:
