Simple COTS alphanumeric display

We'd like to include a simple alpha numeric display output with a revolution pi. Essentially just a status message and simple numeric output for an operator to be able to quickly note if any issues have been detected. A full touch screen display could work, but would be overkill when something like a simple LCD or LED display would be sufficient.
As an example, the adafruit PiOLED would be sufficient, but we would need a relatively robust enclosure or case that can be easily mounted, preferably close to the Revolution Pi unit.
Has anyone found a good solution for a simple display that can utilize either the mini HDMI or USB ports on a Revolution Pi unit?
